New Ford Fiesta ST revealed, packs 147 kW EcoBoost three-pot

Teased earlier this week racing a BMX rider though its factory in Cologne, Germany, Ford has officially taken the wraps off its brand new Fiesta ST.

Expected to make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, and in line with previous speculations, the ST drops the previous 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine for a brand new 1.5-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder developing 147 kW and 290 N.m of torque, with drive going to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

No top speed was announced but Ford claims the ST will go from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the 1.6, with emissions, thanks to the engine featuring cylinder deactivation, dropping from 138 g/km to 114 g/km.

Up 13 kW and 50 N.m on the outgoing ST, the three-door only newcomer will feature a revised Torque Vectoring system, as well as a three driving modes (Normal, Sport and Track) for the first time. Incorporating a number of aesthetics features from the ST-Line, including new bumpers, rear diffuser and unique 18-inch alloy wheels, the ST also gains a new colour option dubbed Liquid Blue.

UK pricing is rumoured to start at around £19 000 (R308 123), although expected this to be higher when the ST bows on South African shores next year.
