New Maxi Mini unveiled

SMALL-CAR maker Mini’s Countryman has been somewhat of a controversial vehicle -not only was it the first four-door, five-seat Mini, but it also had the option of all-wheel-drive. Mini obviously found a market with the plus-sized model as the updated Countryman was unveiled at the 2014 New York Auto Show.

Changes implemented to the Countryman include styling changes to the radiator grille, which varies in colour depending on the model selected. There are also new guards and front and rear aprons to help protect the vehicle during off-road situations.

The Cooper Countryman now comes with 16-inch alloy wheels in 5-Star ‘Air Spoke’ Design as standard. Likewise, the 17-inch light alloy wheels in the new 5-Star ‘Triangle Spoke’ Design for the Cooper S Countryman also save weight over their predecessors.

There are also new LED fog lights and daytime running lights in the Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works Countryman models. Inside the updated model sees various changes to reduce cabin noise while on the aesthetic side of things, the display and controls receive a redesign in the form of anthracite-coloured tachometer and speedometer dial in the John Cooper Works model while other models get chrome finish around the ventilation controls.

There have also been revisions to the powertrains, for instance the Cooper S model now produces 140kW, meaning a 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.5 seconds, fuel efficiency of 6.0 litres/100km and CO2 emissions of 139g/km.
