New vehicles sales drop in August

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) has record yet another drop in the sales of new vehicles for August, with exports registering one of its biggest gains so far.

Aggregate total domestic sales dropped by 9.5% from 50 985 unit last year, to 46 146 examples this year. Individual segments were also down with new passenger vehicles sales falling 13.1% from 34 923 to 30 356, while light commercial vehicles registered a slight decline of 1.0% from last year’s 13 682 units, to 13 542.

Decreases were also posted in the sales of medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles, with the market contracting by 13.9% and 0.6% respectively. Export however increased by 26.7% from 28 112 to 35 520 units.
