New vehicles sales up in June

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) has recorded a minor increase in the sales of new vehicles for June, with exports bouncing back from a significant decline in May to end in the green.

Aggregate total domestic sales for the month inched up by 0.9% from 44 951 units last year to 45 369, while exports increased by 1.4% from 2016's 31 202 to 31 631.

Individual segments were however mixed with new passenger vehicle sales dropping 2.2% from 29 269 to 28 639, while light commercial vehicles went up by 8.0% from 13 216 to 14 278. The market for medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles were also mixed with the former improving by 4.4%, and the latter dropping by 2.8%.
