Next Mercedes-Benz CLS spied, will delete V8 option

28.03.2017

To be replaced by the AMG-GT concept as the new flagship four-door performance sedan in due course, spy shots of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS have emerged online.

Slated to debut later this year, the original four-door coupe, despite still boasting substantial levels of camouflage, betrays its three-pointed star identity by virtue of the slimmer front lights, pronounced grille and swoopy rear end similar to those of the C, E, S and GLE coupes.

Although previous reports have speculated that the CLS could be renamed CLE in line with Mercedes-Benz's new naming policy, Australian online platform, caradvice.com.au, has meanwhile alleged that the current range of V8 models will fall away completely as it would clash with the GT.

Instead, the most powerful engine will now likely be Benz's revived 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six, with a number of smaller petrol options as well as four-and-six cylinder engines diesel engines expected to feature.

Sales of the new CLS are expected to commence early next year.
