Nismo product expansion could include pick-ups and crossovers

A new report from the United States has alleged that Nissan is planning on extending its Nismo range of performance models to include pick-ups, crossovers and even MPVs.

According to Automotive News, the Japanese marque, whose motorsport sub-division currently includes hot versions of the Juke, Sentra, Pulsar, GT-R, 370Z, Note and Patrol, wants to boost sales from 15 000 units recorded last year to 100 000 by 2020, and double the number of Nismo models currently offered.

"Demand for these types of cars is about five to 10 percent of every market. It's the same all over the world," Nissan Motorsport International CEO, Takao Katagiri, said, adding that the future introduction of a Nismo branded pick-up holds significant value as the company aims on expanding its portfolio to not only feature sedans and sports cars.

No indication of which vehicle would next receive the Nismo treatment has yet been made, although the brand's focus on the US could potentially result in the creation of faster version of the Titan pick-up and perhaps later, a Navara Nismo.
