Opel Insignia Sports Tourer dons hiking boots

03.03.2017

A day after being priced in the UK, spy shots of the off-road inspired Opel Insignia Country Tourer have leaked online.

Based on the Sports Tourer estate with a slightly higher ground clearance and black cladding around the wheel arches and door sills, the Country Tourer will use the same all-wheel drive system developed by UK drivetrain specialists GKN incorporating torque vectoring, although lesser models will be front-wheel drive only.

Engines and transmission options will mirror those of the regular Sports Tourer, and include a 103 kW or 121 kW 1.5-litre turbo, a 191 kW 2.0-litre turbo mated to a eight-speed automatic gearbox only with all-wheel drive as standard, Opel's 1.6-litre CDTI whisper diesel with 81 kW or 100 kW, and a 2.0-litre CDTI with 125 kW.

As with the Insignia Grand Sport and Sports Tourer though, the Country Tourer is not earmarked for South Africa.
