General Motors is joining the party with what could be the hottest and most hardcore hatch of the year. Called the Opel Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition, it will make its appearance in South Africa in October. This limited-edition Corsa features a host of visual and performance upgrades that differentiate it from lesser Corsas. Visual changes include the addition of a front lip spoiler, rear roof-mounted spoiler, dual exhaust pipes and dark 18-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, you get Recaro seats in Nappa leather, climate control and an upgraded audio system. The most important changes are to be found underneath the cheeky exterior.
The chassis has undergone further development by Bilstein, mostly to cope with the uprated 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine. In Nürburgring guise, it produces 154kW and 280Nm of torque on overboost. The 0-100km/h sprint is despatched in 6.8 seconds and it only runs out of steam at 230km/h. Opel claims a combined-cycle average of 7.6 litres/100 km and carbon emissions of 178g/km. More detailed information on the new Opel Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition’s heightened performance and various other upgrades will be made available closer to the time of launch.
