Petrol Mahindra XUV500 launched in India

Until now only available with a diesel engine, Mahindra has launched a petrol powered version of the XUV500 in India, following similar unveilings in the Middle East.

Available in a model specific G trim level, the petrol XUV500 differs little from the diesel aesthetically, with the only hint being a mHawk G140 badge on the front wings. Producing 103 kW and 320 Nm of torque, the 2.2-litre mill drives the front wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox with no all-wheel drive option.

Priced at INR 1 549 000 (R324 887), notable features include a seven-inch touchscreen display with Android Auto, projector-type headlights, cruise control, rain sense wipers, keyless entry, push-button start, tyre pressure monitor, dual front airbags and ABS with EBD.

To be offered only in selected Indian cities, it remains to be seen whether Mahindra South Africa will deem it fit to bring the petrol XUV500 to market.
