Porsche submits patent application for one-of-a-kind active rear diffuser

Porsche has reportedly filed a patent application for an active rear diffuser likely to be feature on future models.

According to reports, the patent was originally filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in September last year, and details an active flap below the rear bumper claimed to improve aerodynamics.

Unlike a normal modern day diffuser however, Porsche's system consists of fold-down type design as opposed to an integrated setup, effectively making the tail longer when activated, thus making it suitable for future electric vehicle application as it covers the area normally occupied by the exhaust pipe.

No announcement has yet been made as to when the diffuser would become a production reality.
