Let’s start with the Audi and if rumours are to be believed, we’ll see a new RS3. It’s said to have over 275kW from its 2.5-litre five-cylinder motor.
BMW will introduce its 2 Series Active Tourer - a front-wheel-drive BMW, scandalous. On the other side of the 2 Series coin we will see a cabriolet version of the coupé making its way to SA.
The car that I’m sure many are waiting for is the Ford Mustang. The iconic nameplate will be making its way to local shores next year with a turbo 2.3-litre and a 5.0-litre V8 being the engine options. Ford will also likely début its Fusion sedan and the Everest that will look to take on the Toyota Fortuner.
Around last year this time, I wrote about Honda’s mental Civic Type R being released but this time I can confirm that this 220kW+ turbocharged VTec monster will be making its way to local shores in 2015. Honda will also be releasing an all-new Jazz model that looks more in tune with the market at the moment.
Hyundai has been fairly secretive about things, however, we’ve spotted the new ix20 testing here, which means it will be introduced locally alongside the new i20 hatch.
It’s also a big year for the Jaguar-Land Rover group as it plans to introduce the Jaguar XE, a car designed to compete against the C-Class and 3 Series. On the Land Rover front we will see the new Discovery Sport.
Jeep will also release the stylish Renegade, while sister company, Fiat will release the 500X, which we had a chance to drive a few weeks back.
Mazda is also going to be busy as it introduces key models into the market in the form of the CX-3 and Mazda2. Then, our personal favourite, the brand from Hiroshima will likely introduce its new MX-5 before the end of 2015.
Another dream car from Mercedes-Benz is on the way in the form of the Mercedes-AMG GT, which replaces the SLS. There’s also the arrival of the C63 AMG, which will look to take the fight straight to the BMW M3/M4. Also, expect the desirable S-Class coupé to make its début in the New Year.
With the new Mazda 3 fresh in our minds, the thought of the Nissan Pulsar introduction may have some of the established rivals a bit worried.
Cars like the Mini, Fiat’s 500, Citroën’s new C1 and DS3 are famed for their unique exterior and interior design options. Opel has hopped on the bandwagon as the Adam makes its way into local showrooms early next year. Its bigger Corsa sibling is also likely to début next year. There’s also the imminent presentation of the Mokka SUV.
In the Renault stable, expect the introduction of the new Mégane RS 275 Trophy and the introduction of a more powerful non-Sport Clio in the form of the 1.2-litre turbo, likely mated with the brand’s EDC automatic gearbox. Then, Renault will also present the new Captur SUV, early next year.
We all know that the Volkswagen Polo Vivo is the best-selling passenger car in SA but in 2015 it may be under fire from within its own camp as VW plans to release the Up! Also remember that the new Polo GTI and refreshed Scirocco will be on sale.
