REPORT: Next BMW M5 to have self-shifter only

Following reports last week that the forthcoming BMW M5 could potentially produce as much as 441 kW, BMW Blog has now alleged that the newcomer will drop the option of a manual gearbox completely.

While not offered in South Africa and indeed Europe, US models of the outgoing F10-generation M5, whose production run incidentally ends later this month, were made available with a six-manual gearbox in addition to the seven-speed M DCT, with both reportedly expected to make way for a eight-speed Steptronic when the new F90 M5 debuts later this year.

As per previous reports, the F90 will also feature BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive layout for the first time, and a new lightweight construction with extensive use of aluminium and carbon fibre.
