Ram set to shock New York with colourful special editions

Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) owned Ram has unveiled two special edition versions of its 1500 models, destined to officially debut at the New York Auto Show.

Sublime Sport

Limited to just 3 000 units, the Sport Crew Cab-based Sublime Sport features a eye-catching Lime Green paint finish complete with twin-black stripes on the bonnet, black 22-inch alloy wheels on rear-wheel drive models and 20-inch rubber on four-wheel drive versions, black Ram badges on the grille and tailgate and a performance bonnet with dual air-intakes.

Inside, the interior gets green stitching on the seats and door panels, green Sport badging on the headrests and the glovebox and anodised black trim inserts.

Up front, the Sublime comes powered by the tried-and-the-tested 5.7-litre Hemi V8, which develops 295 kW and 556 Nm of torque, and linked to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic gearbox. Pricing starts at $47 135 (R650 085) with sales set to commence next month.

Rebel Blue Streak

Arriving on dealership floors at the same time as the Sublime, the aptly named Blue Streak uses the popular Rebel Crew Cab as a base, and bar the unique exterior paint finish, can also specified with the optional Rebel Black Appearance package consisting of a black bonnet, wheels, grille, lower paint finish and bullbar.

Interior changes are subtle and includes anodised black finishes on the doors, centre console and instrument cluster, Slate Grey stitching, Ram badged floor mats and optional all-black leather seats.

Like the regular Rebel and Sublime Sport, the Blue Streak uses the same 295 kW / 556 Nm 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engine, hooked to a eight-speed automatic gearbox. Pricing starts at $46 490 (R641 190).
