Refreshed Toyota Avanza is up for the challenge

The Toyota Avanza MPV has been with us for some time now and as is tradition, has received a few updated years into its model life cycle. The new model gets styling improvements as well as improvements to its refinement.

Updated exterior

Toyota has given its small people carrier the brands ‘corporate face’ which includes a large radiator grille, colour coded ‘brow’, new headlights and updated lower grille design while at the rear the tail lamps have been revised while there is also a larger boot garnish.

Changes inside

The interior is now finished in a mono-tone with new interior panels as well as a re-designed instrument cluster, an Eco indicator as well as a heel pad in the driver’s foot area for increased comfort. There are also interior convenience additions such a independently adjustable second and third row seating, allowing for owners to configure the interior according to their specific needs. Small additions such as auto up/down driver window, a new console tray with more space and an auto-off interior lamp function round off the changes.

Added safety

On the safety front, Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) has been added to all models which works in conjunction with ABS while there is also an anti-theft system with alarm and immobiliser.

Underpinnings and mechanicals

The vehicle now has revised suspension geometry while design changes provide a reduction in cabin noise when travelling. There are two engines available in the range, a 70kW/137Nm 1.3 litre naturally aspirated unit and a 77kW/137Nm 1.5 litre naturally aspirated motor. The 1.3 litre model consumes a claimed 6.1 litres/100 km while the 1.5 litre manual claims 6.3 litres/100 km and the 1.5 litre automatic claims 6.7 litres/100 km.
