Six five-star ratings awarded in latest Euro NCAP round

06.09.2017

The European New Car Assessment Programme, more commonly known as EuroNCAP, has released its latest round of crash-test results, with a total of six models obtaining the maximum five stars.

Aside from the new Renault Koleos, which has so far not yet been confirmed for local introduction, both the new Ford Fiesta, Jeep Compass, Mercedes-Benz C-class Cabriolet, Opel Grandland X and recently refreshed Mazda CX-5 were awarded the coveted grading, with the latter equalling the Seat Ibiza, Toyota C-HR and Volvo S90/V90 for adult protection.

Not expected to arrive in South Africa anytime soon, the all-electric Opel Ampera-e managed only four stars while the recently launched Kia Rio, in standard spec, amassed a disappointing three stars with the same applying to the new Picanto. With the optional safety packages fitted though, the Rio achieved the maximum five stars and the Picanto four.
