Sugarbelt 450 battle set for Ford and Toyota

THE small farming town of Eston (near Pietermaritzburg), in KwaZulu-Natal, will be ground zero as rally titans Ford and Toyota will both be looking to add the Sugarbelt 450 to their trophy cabinets.

The Sugarbelt 450 is the second round of the Donaldson Cross Country Championship, following the season-opener in Harrismith.

It remains to be seen if the Ford team, situated in Pietermaritzburg, will have a home advantage after suffering extensive damage in the Harrismith round.

According to Ford helmsman, Lance Woolridge, it’s been an extremely busy couple of weeks. “We have used the time effectively to rebuild both Rangers, and introduced quite a few changes that should improve our performance," Woolridge continued.

“I’ve not raced here before, but I’m looking forward to getting to know the area,” said Toyota’s Leeroy Poulter, after he and navigator, Rob Howie, achieved a maiden victory at the opening race of the 2015 season.

Teams will set out to take on the prologue of 100km at 11.30am on Friday, 8th May, while the main race, consisting of two 160km loops gets underway at 8.30am on Saturday, 9th May.
