Tata Nexon the R120k crossover you cannot have

Unveiled back in July as its rival for the segment leading Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Creta, Tata Motors has now revealed Indian market pricing details for its funky looking Nexon crossover.

As previously reported, the Nexon, its name reportedly derived from Next-On, rates as the fourth model after the Hexa SUV, Tigor sedan and Tiago hatch to incorporate Tata's IMPACT design language, and will be offered in a choice of five trim levels and two engine options.

Depending on the spec, notable standard equipment includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen Harman infotainment system with Android Auto, Bluetooth and Tata's ConnectNext app suite, 16-inch alloy wheels, cooled glovebox, reverse camera and rear parking sensors, push-button start and a segment first multi-drive selector with three modes (Eco, Sport and City).

Underneath the bonnet, the Nexon will offer the choice of a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol engine developing 81 kW and 170 Nm of torque, or a 1.5-litre Revotorq turbodiesel punching out 81 kW and 260 Nm. For now, only a six-speed manual gearbox will be available with a six-speed automated manual likely to arrive towards the end of the year.

At present, no plans are in place to bring the Nexon to South Africa.
