The Autodealer Woman’s Choice Awards Boland/Helderberg Leg

The Autodealer Woman’s Choice Awards held at Flagstone Winery Somerset West on Saturday 1st November presented 10 women an opportunity to drive all 10 SUV’s around a Somerset West. We asked them to score the vehicles and sales people out of 10. The intention was not to extract a winner from amongst the 10 but rather to get a ladies perspective.

As in our pervious article, where American research suggests that women have an 8o percent sway in what car will end up in the garage. We wanted to highlight these dealerships and vehicles to our panel of judges as a cross section of the best these dealerships can offer.

The race was hotly contested between the sales team with Kia Somerset West showcasing an impressive array of three vehicles plus a test car. While other dealerships proved that size doesn’t always count and left it to the sales people to step up and separate the wheat from the chaff. Greatly anticipated was the new Nissan Qashqai that arrived from Nissan Milnerton and the Peugeot 2008 Crossover from Peugeot Stellenbosch, resplendent in white with green side mirrors and other body mouldings. The biggest car of the car was most definitely the Dodge Journey from Rola Chrysler Jeep and Dodge. It scored highly amongst all the panel for its luxurious interior and impressive Power.

The question is asked why SUVs and Crossover garner such appeal in our country and it has to do with space, versatility, perceived greater safety and status symbols. So a couple of the questions were based on these topics and the Honda CRV from Rola Honda, Mitsubishi ASX also from Rola and the Ford Kuga were all rated highly.

On the road there was some great results for the Volkswagen Tiguan from Philwest, Somerset West Hyundai’s IX35 and County Ford’s Kuga all getting top scores across the board. The panel judged the vehicles on ride comfort and the driving experience. Top design impression as in the look of the vehicle or design elements were mixed as in this category it is really done to personal taste. The Audi Q3 from Audi Paarl, Kia Sportage and the Nissan Qashqai seemed to have the vote.

After the dust had settled Brandon Langfred from Philwest Volkswagen in Somerset West walked away with the prize of Best Sales Representative of the Day and two tickets to John Legend. As one of the judges commented “He loves that car, there is nothing he doesn’t know about it” After reviewing the scores it is clear the dealerships brought their A game to the event and we would like to thank them for their participation.

Lastly we could not have held this event without the assistance of Flagstone Wines and their team; Tommy Kyle for the music; Alan & Estelle from Barista Sista who kept everyone on top form with superb coffee – a must for any event. Salon Suzette, Mukda Thai Spa, Tosca Hair Salon for the prize donations and lastly to our panel of judges – thank you for your valuable input and the time you so generously donated.
