Now though we’ve heard that a new one will be unveiled at this year’s New York International Auto Show. We have details on what to expect.
As for the styling changes, the new Toyota 86 seems to have adopted more aggressive styling with a larger centre intake emphasizing the low, wide stance of the car. This complements a new design with re-configured LED front headlights and indicators as well as new fog lamp bezel and the revised bumper. The rear now features LED taillights and a new bumper design. The alloy wheels have a new twisted spoke design. The overall design is much sportier than before, and we like that.
Sources say that the interior sensory quality has been greatly improved with a new leather-Alcantara seat option with suede-wrapped instrument panel. The same material adds a new, soft feel to the door trim. Drivers will also enjoy new seating material with silver stitching and a sporty steering wheel with integrated audio controls and an 86 logo on the centre hub.
Now the Toyota 86 has always been an impressive car, offering drivers impeccable driving dynamics. The new one has been tweaked so as to deliver even better dynamics. A new suspension set-up with revised shock tuning and a changed spring rate make the car easier to control and more agile than ever, delivering an even more entertaining drive.
As for the exact engine specifications, well, we’ll have to wait until the official reveal. We are pretty sure that Toyota will keep their punchy four-cylinder boxer engine. As for it being turbocharged - we are not sure just yet.
