Toyota adds Xtra Hilux to line-up

WE RECENTLY brought you the news of the slightly tweaked Toyota Hilux that has been released to celebrate forty-five years of this iconic bakkie locally. Now, with the aim of bolstering sales and satisfying consumer demand, the people at Toyota SA have announced a new Hilux variant, the raised body version of the Hilux 2.5 D-4D SRX Xtra Cab, which replaces previous low body version.

What’s new?

The new model features 16-inch steel wheels (15-inch on the previous model) while ground clearance goes up from 181mm to 212mm, meaning both approach and departure angles are now better for the new model.

The kit

For starters you get front and rear mud guards, an air conditioner, an audio system with Bluetooth and RDS, multi-function steering, electric windows, USB outlet, centre console box, dual front airbags, ABS brakes and a five-year / 90 000km service plan.

What’s different?

You can differentiate the new model by virtue of its de-chromed exterior, which instead, sees black cladding for the door handles and outer mirrors. Inside, the SRX gets hardwearing rough-weave fabric upholstery.

The heart of the beast

This model is powered by the proved 2.5 D-4D four-cylinder diesel engine, which is mated to a five-speed manual box. The unit produces 75kW/260Nm.

The price

The retail selling price of R298 700 is a R5 000 premium over the outgoing model.
