US Chevrolet Spark gets Activ(e)

With the SUV / crossover craze still very much in full-swing, Chevrolet has unveiled an off-road inspired version of its Spark city car, set for introduction in North America during the first quarter of 2017.

In a similar fashion to the Opel Karl Rocks shown earlier this year, the Spark Activ mainly adds a number of aesthetic enhancement to differentiate itself from lesser models. These include revised front and rear fascias, 15-inch alloy wheels, a 10 mm increase in overall ride height, black body cladding, front skid plate, roof rails, unique ACTIV badging and foglights integrated into the front bumpers.

Being based on the flagship 2LT model, standard spec is comprehensive with a seven-inch MyLink touch screen display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, reverse camera, three month Sirius XM satellite radio, OnStar and 4G LTE Wi-Fi subscriptions, cruise control and remote keyless entry.

Available with either a five-speed manual or a CVT, the Activ retains the normal Spark's 1.4-litre engine that makes 73 kW and 128 N.m of torque. Pricing starts at $16 945 (R239 808) for the manual with the CVT carrying a $18 045 (R255 375) sticker price.
