06.07.2016

You may have heard that the popular Renault Clio has received a mid-life refresh. As is customary the flagship model has al received some tweaks. Can this rather disappointing RS model now offer enthusiasts what they want?

The Clio RS range

The new model will be available with a 149kW output in the Cup and Lux variants as well as a 164kW Trophy version. There is still no manual gearbox option and the six-speed EDC remains the sole option

The Sport or ‘Lux’ model as we call it locally still comes with 17- or 18-inch wheels, while the Cup gets 18-inch wheels and the Trophy also 18-inch items however the car is  lowered by 20mm at the front and 10mm at the rear.

Uniquely in its segment, the Trophy version can be specified with an exclusive exhaust system inspired by the Clio R.S 16 concept car and developed in tandem with industry specialist Akrapovič.

So what’s actually new?

The front end of the new Renault Clio RS gets a new front bumper, and the car is completed by LED multi-faceted lighting in the form of a chequered flag called RS Vision, for a distinctive look and improved lighting performance. This technology, initially seen on the Clio RS 16 concept car, co-ordinates the vehicle's fog lights, cornering lights, side lights and dipped and main beams to enhance night-time visibility.

There are also new 18-inch wheels and specific sills while at the rear the spoiler, functional diffuser and a twin exhaust tail pipes remain the same as do the C-shaped lighting signature.

It is unlikely that we will receive the Trophy version locally however an updated Lux and Cup Clio RS is certainly on the way.
