Now, for 2015 the Scirocco has finally been given a few cosmetic updates, inside and out.
On the outside, the new Scirocco’s shape has been slightly refined and modernised with new headlights and taillights, as well as revised bumper styling. The revised front bumper features ‘blades’ on the outer section, like those on the latest-generation Golf GTI, with integrated indicator lights, daytime running lights and fog lights. On models with optional bi-Xenon headlights, the daytime running lights are LEDs within the main headlights. Bi-Xenon are standard on the ‘R’ derivative, however LED taillights are a standard feature across the range.
What’s more is that the R version now gets those familiar 19-inch Cadiz alloy wheels as seen on the Golf R. The rest of the range, with the exception of the 1.4 TSI 118kW also benefits from new alloy wheel designs.
Inside, the Scirocco dashboard has (apparently) been updated as well. Apart from new dials and an auxiliary instrument cluster above the centre console, which consists of a chronometer, turbo pressure and oil temperature gauges, not much has changed. The climate control dials still look like they come from a Golf 6. Nevertheless, the interior still looks stylish and will feature only the best materials.
Under the hood VW has kept things unchanged, as we said, it’s cosmetic. The three engine options have been carried over: 118kW 1.4 TSI, the 155kW 2.0 TSI and the mad 188kW 2.0 TSI. Why the 2.0 TSI doesn’t have 162kW like the current generation Golf GTI, we don’t know. Even the Scirocco R is 18kW down on power compared to its Golf R sibling and without the 4Motion AWD system it’s slightly slower (0.8seconds to be exact) from 0-100km/h. But let’s be honest, the Scirocco R looks so damn good that we’re willing to overlook the minute performance differences.
We reckon that the 2.0 TSI 155kW will be the most popular seller. From 0-100km is dispatched in under seven seconds and VW claim a fuel consumption of around 7.5 litres/100km if you’re cautious with your right foot.
We, here at Autodealer, have always liked the Scirocco regardless of engine size. We feel that its iconic shape and downright sexiness is tough to beat considering it’s under R500 000.

The new Scirocco comes standard with a five-year/90 000km Service Plan, three-year/120 000km warranty and a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty. Service interval is 15 000km.
