According to UK daily AutoExpress, the newest recipient of the iconic GTI badge, driven in prototype form while undergoing hot weather testing in the Northern Cape, will pack a turbocharged version of the existing 1.0-litre three pot developing 85 kW, with drive going to the front wheels via a six-speed manual box.
Using various Polo components and sitting 15 mm lower to the ground than the regular up!, the GTI features subtle exterior upgrades to identify itself from the normal model, including a unique rear spoiler, stripes, chrome exhausts, black dashboard with red dots, new gear lever and steering and tartan cloth seats.
UK pricing is expected to be around £16 000 (R280 189) although more details will only emerge closer to launch.
