Four trim levels are available, being the Scirocco, GT, R-Line and R.
On external design the Scirocco’s shape has been refined and modernized with new headlights and tail lights, as well as revised bumper styling. The revised front bumper features aerodynamic-blades in the outer section (as does the latest-generation Golf GTI), with integrated indicator lights, daytime running lights and fog lights.
All Sciroccos will now have LED tail lights, while the bumper has been reshaped to appear lower and more purposeful. Similar to the Golf, the Volkswagen logo badge will now serve as the tailgate release handle.
The new models have six new turbocharged direct-injection petrol and diesel engines, which all meet Euro-6 emission standards. All models in the range (except the R), will feature BlueMotion technology modifications, with the Stop/Start function as standard and also brake energy recuperation systems.
The petrol range will contain a 1.4-litre unit with 91kW (previously 89 kW), and a new 132kW, 2.0-litre, which replaces the previous 1.4-litre 117kW unit. The previous 2.0-litre TSI 154kW has been replaced with a 162kW unit. The new Scirocco R uses a 2.0-litre unit producing 206kW, 11kW more than before. Despite an increase in capacity and power, the new models are more economical than their predecessors.
The two diesel engines will both be 2.0-litre units, with either 110kW or 135kW of power, while only the 1.4-litre TSI will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox. The other engines will have the option of a six-speed DSG gearbox.
The interior has also been updated with new-look dials and an auxiliary instrument cluster above the centre console, paying tribute to the 1974 model, consisting of chronometer, charge pressure and oil temperature gauges.
The GT model will feature 18-inch Interlagos alloy wheels, front fog lights, front and rear parking sensors, chequered-flag dash inserts, aluminium-look pedals as well as cloth and Alcantara upholstery.
The R-Line model comes with R-Line-specific bumpers and side skirts, 19-inch Talladega alloy wheels, R-Line scuff plates, an R-Line-specific steering wheel, handbrake and gear lever, carbon-look dash inserts and heated, electrically adjustable Vienna leather sports seats.
The top of the range Scirocco R has its own unique exterior styling kit with chrome-look door mirror caps; bi-Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, 19-inch Cadiz alloy wheels, R-specific sports seats, 10mm lower sports suspension, DCC dynamic chassis control and a colour multifunction trip computer.
The new models are to be released in Europe in August, this year.
