Vespa celebrates 70 years

Premium scooter maker Vespa will be releasing a special run of limited edition models called The Settantesimo Range to celebrate 70 years of the iconic Vespa. These mew model are currently on sale in Vespa showrooms across the country.

70 shades of chic

The Settantisimo Range includes a special edition Primavera, GTS and PX, available in two new colour schemes: Azzurro 70, a sky blue; and Grigio 70, a chic grey. New finishes such as a dark brown saddle with beige piping, a Settantesimo logo and new dark wheels make up the anniversary models apperance.

A word from Vespa

“Vespa is timeless – it transcends generations, fashion and fads,” says Vespa Managing Director, Andy Reid. “But that doesn’t mean we can’t toast to 70 incredible years with something special.”

A brief history lesson

It was in the spring of 1946 that the first Vespa rolled out of the Pontedera plant in Italy. First designed as a new, economic mode of transport after the Second World War, Vespa has grown into an internationally recognised symbol of commuting.

To date, Vespa has sold more than 18 million units worldwide. Reid’s dream is to increase the number of Vespas on South African roads to create congestion-free cities. He believes The Settentisimo Range is the perfect way to celebrate the birthday of a living legend.

Riding into the future

“70 years on the saddle and it’s just the beginning for Vespa,” says Reid. “Our community continues to grow as more and more people are converted to the unrivalled freedom that comes with owning a Vespa. I hope more South Africans come along for the ride as we continue the journey.”
