Flagship Toyota RAV4 gets spec upgrade

A South African favourite with regular monthly sales exceeding 400 units, Toyota has introduced a spec level upgrade for its flagship RAV4 VX models.

Although remaining unchanged aesthetically, new additions include Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, rear Cross Traffic Alert, foot-well lighting and deletion of the sunroof.

Engines remain as is with the base GX making use of a 2.0-litre petrol engine, delivering 107 kW and 187 N.m of torque, with driving going to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or optional CVT. Completing the GX line-up, the all-wheel drive only diesel uses Toyota's stalwart 2.2 D4-D that produces 110 kW and 340 N.m of torque, with a six-speed manual being the sole option.

In VX guise, the aforementioned diesel drops the manual in favour of a six-speed automatic, with petrol power coming from a 2.5-litre unit churning out 132 kW and 233 N.m of torque, and driving all four wheels trough the self shifter.

A three year / 100 000 km warranty and five year / 90 000 km service plan is standard on all models.
