Funky new Nissan Micra (finally) priced

Launched in Europe just over two years ago, and finally confirmed for local ability last month, pricing and spec details have emerged of the long-awaited new Nissan Micra.

Taking styling inspiration from the Sway concept shown at the Paris Motor Show three years ago, the new K14 Micra will slot in above the previous K13 model, known as the Micra Active, and be offered in a choice of three trim levels; Visia, Acenta and Acenta+ with a single drivetrain option.

Sharing its platform with the Renault Clio and indeed built at the same plant in France, all local Micras will come powered by the familiar 898 cc three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that makes 66kW/140Nm, connected to a five-speed manual gearbox. Top speed is rated at 170km/h with the 0-100km/h sprint taking 12.1 seconds.

According to the official information released on the Nissan South Africa website, fuel consumption is a claimed 5.1-litres/100km with emissions rated at 115 g/km.

Tipping the scales at just over 900kg and available in six colours; Solid White, Echo Grey, Platinum Silver, Passion Red, Power Blue and Energy Orange, the Micra measures 3 999mm in overall length with a wheelbase of 2 525mm, height of 1 465mm and width of 1 743mm. Boot space is a claimed 300-litres or up to 1 004-litres with the rear seats folded flat.

In terms of standard equipment, the Visia features 15-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, body coloured bumpers, LED daytime running lights, front electric windows, follow-me-home headlights, electric mirrors, a two-speaker sound system with Bluetooth, USB and Aux input, manual air-conditioning, boot spoiler, cruise control and a multi-function steering wheel. Safety comes in the form of six airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Vehicle Dynamic Control and Hill Start Assist.

Moving one up, the Acenta swaps the steelies for 16-inch alloys and comes with body coloured mirrors, front fog lights, a four-speaker sound system, dual-zone grey and black cloth trim, a five-inch TFT instrument cluster display and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Voice Control.

At the sharp end, the Acenta+ boasts 17-inch alloys, Energy Orange inserts on the seats and on the dashboard and a leather covered steering wheel and gear lever.

A six year/150 000km warranty and three year/90 000km service plan are standard across the range.
