Long awaited new Nissan Navara (finally) priced

Easily one of the most highly awaited new models to touch down on local shores, Nissan South Africa has finally announced pricing details of its brand-new Navara.

Claimed to redefine the popular and ever changing lifestyle bakkie segment, the double-cab only Navara features a number of styling traits borrowed from the bigger US-market Titan XD on first glance, with improvements coming in the form of a bigger loadbay (1 503 mm vs. 1 435 mm), a payload of 1 002 kg and two rating of 3.5-tons for a braked trailer.

Tipping the scales at 176 kg less than the old D40 Navara, the new D23's biggest talking point has been the dropping of the traditional leaf-spring rear suspension setup for a coil five-link configuration, while still sporting a ladder frame chassis.

Aimed at improving ride quality but without compromising on load hauling, the Navara also features a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive system allowing for the change from two to four-wheel drive to be done at speeds under 100 km/h. Regardless of when in low or high range four-wheel drive, power delivery and wheel braking is kept in check via a new Active Brake Limited Slip Differential, which works in conjunction with the standard Vehicle Dynamic Control and ABS system.

Up front, the Navara also eschews the old 2.5 and 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engines for a brand new 2.3-litre four-cylinder with twin-turbochargers for a output of 140 kW and 450 Nm of torque. Initially only offered with four-wheel drive, a two-wheel drive model is expected to debut towards the end of 2017, buyers can chose from either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission in two trim levels; SE and LE.

Notable standard features consist of a touch screen infotainment system with USB, Bluetooth, DVD and 3D satellite navigation, electric rear cab window, Spinal Support front seats, climate control, seven airbags and cruise control. A number of exterior add-ons such as nudge bars, rollbars, scuff-plates and black XD wheels are also offered.

A six-year / 150 000 km warranty and three year / 90 000 km service plan is standard on all models. Look out for our first driving impression of the new Nissan Navara in the coming days.
