Mid-range Suzuki Vitara drops pedal count

Less than a year after its re-introduction to the local market, Suzuki Auto South Africa has revised its Vitara range with the addition of an automatic gearbox on the mid-range GL+.

Said to have been the result of customer feedback, the six-speed self shifter, which until now had been limited to the flagship GLX, joins the existing five-speed manual on two-wheel drive GL+ models, with four-wheel drive versions continuing to make do with three pedals only.

Up front, the auto remains mechanically unchanged with motivation still coming from Suzuki's 1.6-litre M16A petrol engine, that makes 86 kW and 151 N.m of torque. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.0 L/100 km and emissions at 139 g/km.

Stylistically, the auto can be specified with a number of personalised external options such a two tone colour scheme for the roof and body, and Urban and Rugged Pack which mainly includes different finishes for the grille, fenders, wheel arches, door handles, spoilers, scuff plates and roof rails.

Standard spec is comprehensive with items consisting of 16-inch alloy wheels, full colour coding for the grille, door handles and mirrors, cloth seats with silver stitching, electric windows all around, full trip computer, electric mirrors, tinted privacy glass, climate control, cruise control, tilt and reach-adjustable multi-function steering wheel, four-speaker sound system with Bluetooth, Aux and USB, 60/40 split rear seat and numerous cupholders. Safety items consist of seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and EBA.

A three year / 100 000 km warranty and four year / 60 000 km service plan is included in the R313 900 sticker price.
