New Jeep Compass now in the open

After being pictured undisguised last week, Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) has finally taken the wraps of its brand new second generation Jeep Compass.

Replacing its predecessor and the aging Patriot, the newcomer, which will be build at FCA's Goiana plant in Brazil, takes a number of styling cues from the Renegade, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, with FCA touting it as "a truly global SUV" that will be sold with "17 fuel-efficient powertrains in just over 100 countries".

Although no further details were divulged, the Compass, which is expected to go on sale in North America during the first quarter of 2017, will use the same platform as the Renegade with power likely to come from a 2.0-litre turbo or 2.4-litre Tigershark engine, paired to a six-speed manual or ZF nine-speed automatic.
