Toyota Hilux ventures to the dark side

Having quietly introduced the canvas roof Aygo X-cite earlier this week, Toyota has now followed a similar approach with a special edition version of the Hilux known as the Raider Black Edition.

Based on the flagship 2.8 GD-6 double cab with either rear or four-wheel drive, the Black mainly adds a number of cosmetic differences consisting of a black grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, black front bumper guard, tonneau cover, black roof, black mirrors, black sports bar and inside, black leather seats, faux carbon fibre inserts and Black branded floor mats. Standard spec is carried over from the normal Hilux.

Mechanically, the Black also remains unchanged with the 2.8-litre GD-6 engine still producing 132 kW and 420 Nm of torque, or 450 Nm in models with the optional six-speed automatic gearbox. Top speed is 180 km/h for the manual and 175 km/h for automatic, with the 0-100 km/h dash taking 11.2 and 10.8 seconds respectively. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.6 L/100 km for the manual and 8.0 L/100 km for the automatic.

A three year / 100 000 km warranty and five year / 90 000 km service plan is standard on across the Black range.
