Such has been the demand for a place on the grid for the DK Porsche Challenge at the cars in Action Festival of Motoring at AA Kyalami on Saturday, July 17 that the race organisers have been forced to create two classes, one for Unlimited cars and the other exclusively for Porsche 924 models.

The Unlimited Class has attracted 23 entries with the star attraction no doubt the Porsche 911 RSR Turbo to be driven by Frans Pretorius who will also be in action in the Porsche 956 in the Vodacom 200 sports car race on Sunday.

Also entering the fray is Johan van Veelen in the Porsche RSR Turbo, former sports car racer Vernon Bricknell in the Nationwide Airlines Porsche 911 RSR, a gaggle of Porsche Cup 944 Turbo models, the LDS Barracuda of Harry Costas and seven 924 models.

The Porsche 924 Class will see 21 vehicles come under starters orders with the three car Nashua Mobile Racing Team of Terence Marsh, Trevor Ahier and Archie Rutherford, who are better known for their Absa Off Road Championship exploits, likely contenders for podium positions.

However, Brian Algar who is the reigning champion is the likely winner but can expect a fight on his hands from the likes of Peter Bailey, Rui Campos and Dave Parrat.

The first heat of the DK Porsche Challenge will be run over eight laps at 10h55 with the second heat over the same distance at 14h55 on Saturday. The Porsche 924 Challenge will also be run over two heats of six laps with the first at 12h25 and the second at 16h55 on Saturday.
