The organisers of the Sasol Mini Baja Competition 2003 have laid on loads of side attractions for the final day’s event at the Zwartkops International World of Motoring on Saturday (18 October). -

- While the 37 teams from the University, Technikon and other Institutes’ Mechanical Engineering departments are putting their space-frame Mini Bajas through various technical tests and the grand finale 4 hour endurance race, commencing at 12h00, at the 3km Zwartkops Off Road Academy (ZORA) track, the public can participate in a variety of fun and “learning”. -

- University of Pretoria (TUKS) will offer mini Formula One racing on a specially laid out 20 metre circuit, hand out free cool drinks and ice-cream via spot prizes, provide information sessions for youngsters keen on becoming mechanical engineers and display cutting edge designs by Tukkies engineering students in the large marquee, where Sasol, Briggs & Stratton, Gerotek Test Facilities and the Automotive Industries Development Centre (AIDC) will also make educational presentations and displays available. -

- For those who would like to indulge in a bit of speed, in a safe and strictly controlled environment, there are three options from 09h30 onwards. -

- The Sasol Jordan F1 showcar, fitted with latest F1 Sony PlayStation 2 game, will be there to “play”; a few laps for R100 are available at the Bridgestone Zwartkops Kart Raceway and the public can watch advanced driving demonstrations on the Sasol dualfuelä Skidpan, with Sasol racing stars Phillip Kekana and Gugu Zulu. -

- The day will conclude with a mini music festival on the Skidpan at 18h00, a number of local bands like “Lenz”, “Silt” and “The Ends” providing the entertainment, which will cost R20 per person. -

- Entrance to all the Sasol Mini Baja activities at ZORA is free for the whole family and full catering will be available. Alcohol sales commence after the competition finishes at 16h00. -
