Following an awesome 2002 rally season, the ToyToy Used spares Toyota team of Wayne and Dave Watt were looking to an even more exciting 2003 season. -

- Little did the Benoni-based pair know what type of excitement they were in for, when they started the SA Motorsport Club’s Middelburg Nissan rally on Saturday morning. -

- They started the event battling for traction in the thick sand in stage one, and as a result lost quite a bit of time to their fellow competitors. Having moved up a class to Class S3 this year, they were also not quite sure who to judge themselves against, which made their challenge even bigger. -

- Having gotten used the new 1600cc engine, compared to the ultra-quick 1300cc from last year, the boys got settled and were clearly fighting back for the time lost on stage one. -

- An engine oil leak later in the day, caused the clutch to start slipping and as a result the ToyToy team saw themselves losing even more time to their compatriots. The problem was soon sorted and they continued on their merry way, fighting for a definite Top 5 placing going into Stage 8. -

- The ToyToy team were having an awesome stage, when disaster struck just 1.5km from the end, when they rolled their Toyota Tazz coming out of a 90 degree right hander. Unfortunately, due to the distributor breaking, the team could not continue to the end, as they could not get the engine to start, which was most unfortunate considering their overall standing. -

- Fortunately, fellow Toy Toy team mates, Michael Houghton and Bryn Doherty, in their S2 Toyota Tazz, were able to carry the ToyToy flag to the end and finished in 12th place overall and second in Class. -

- The Toy Toy team will be back in action at the next round of the MSA Northern Region’s championship on 26 April 2003 in Bela Bela (Warmbaths), for the SCC/ER round of the championship. -
