This weekend's (26/27 September) McCarthy Automark All-Tar Rally is an event that regularly draws some spectacular machinery - few more interesting than the Sabat Saab 9-3 to be piloted by tarmac expert Michele Lupini and Garry Kinsey-Wilkins. -

- The 275kW Sabat Saab is the work of Saab South Africa's technicians who wanted to see what they could reasonably get out of a Saab, but the vehicle has now been developed further and turned into a tarmac weapon in conjunction with the Sabat Rally team.-

- "When we first drove the car, it was a little too much to handle with all that power and torque through the front wheels," driver Lupini reflected. "It has 275kW on tap and huge torque, so we set about to get all that grunt down nicely and the team has come up with a few solutions that should see us making quite an impact this weekend..."-

- The rally machine also serves to indicate to Saab owners what can be done to their street cars with a little effort, so the team's progress will be closely watched and should prove effective in race and rally man Lupini's hands.-

- The Automark All-Tar Rally is a unique annual affair that brings together the best rally machinery with some rather interesting race and hot street machinery. The event starts at Zwartkops Raceway with a blast around the circuit, which sees cars racing together on the track in some spectacular dices. That kicks off at seven in the evening and establishes the starting order the next day.-

- Saturday sees the action starting first thing with another stage around the circuit, before the crews head out around Pretoria with stages at the Watloo Test Centre, around Gerotek proving ground and then out to the Carousel for the finish and a last blast around the casino starting at six in the evening...-
