Veteran off road racing driver Stratford Voogt will make a one-off appearance in the Atlas Copco/Chicago Pneumatic Jeep on the Toyota Dealer 400, the penultimate round of the SA Off Road Car Racing Championship…presented by Absa.

Sundra-based Voogt has had a long association with the red monster and apart from preparing it for many years he also shared driving duties with Arthur Abraham, Sarel van de Merwe and Paolo Piazza-Musso with Scott Abraham as navigator for many years.

Abraham Junior is now based in Germany where he is under contract to New Dimension X-Raid BMW that will enter three BMW X5’s in the UAE Desert Challenge and Dakar 2004 and will miss out on the remaining two rounds of the championship.

“I’m delighted to get behind the wheel of the Atlas Copco/Chicago Pneumatic Jeep after such a long time,” said Voogt. “The Jeep has always been a challenge to drive but I’m more than prepared for the task ahead.”

“My objective is to ensure that the Jeep finishes in a strong position so that we can preserve Richard Carolin’s runner-up position in the coveted Class T Co-driver’s championship.”

The route for the forthcoming Toyota Dealer 400 on October 24 and 25 should suit the Jeep well and Voogt and Carolin can be expected to put in a strong run for another Class T podium finish.

The Toyota Dealer 400 gets underway at 13:00 on Friday, October 24 with a 36km Prologue around Kwena Dam to determine starting positions for Saturday’s main event.

The symbolic start of the main event will be on Saturday, October 25 at 07:30 from Lydenburg Toyota on the corner of Voortrekker Street and Lange Street, Lydenburg and crews will then head out to the Lydenburg Airfield where the event proper gets underway at 08:00.

Crews then head for the Kwena basin on a 120km section, which will only be used once, following which they will complete two laps of a 120km loop before finishing at the Badfontein Boere Saal near the Kwena Dam.

The first vehicle is expected at the finish at approximately 13:30.
