Historically, Audi cars bearing the S-emblem have always been sporty, offering exceptional performance-orientated driving. With this in mind, the newly updated Audi S5 Coupé successfully bridges the gap between sensuous style and track-tuned performance machines. Along with a potent engine and a well-calibrated suspension, the S5 Coupé also possesses a luxurious interior and a high level of overall refinement.
Visual updates to the S5 Coupé include more angular headlights featuring a continuous LED daytime running light strip, a new 'singleframe” grille, new fog lamps, a more aggressive-looking front fascia and modified body details with new crystal-effect paint finishes. The S5 Coupé is low-slung and has extended sills and a more pronounced rear apron. It boasts aluminium looking mirror mouldings and four very large tail exhaust pipes – all obvious S-car hallmarks. Colour coding ensures that the S5’s sleek, wind-cheating lines are emphasised, while its wide and low proportions create a powerful, unmistakably athletic impression.
Inside the Audi S5 Coupé features carbon fibre trim, special seats and a unique steering wheel. There is the newest form of Audi's MMI infotainment interface and Audi Connect, which brings in-car internet connectivity. The ultra premium models come with Nappa Leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with iPod integration, Bluetooth connectivity, tri-zone automatic climate control, Audi side assist and rear parking camera. The S5 may be a two-door coupé, but accommodation is spacious enough for four with wide opening doors making access to the rear seats easy and convenient. Other notable specifications include: ventilated seats, adaptive cruise control and a performance-oriented Sport Differential package with torque vectoring. Also available is Audi Drive Select, which offers a variety of different suspension, steering, transmission and engine calibrations.
The Audi S5 Coupé is powered by a super-charged 3.0 litre V6 engine with 245kW/440Nm. Replacing the old 4.2 litre V8 engine of previous models, Audi says that with this engine version fuel consumption drops by a massive 20%, while CO2 emissions are reduced to only 190g/km. A seven-speed S-tronic gearbox is the only transmission option available and together with important technical updates including quattro all-wheel drive with 'crown-gear centre differential' and electromechanical power steering; the Audi S5 Coupé propels itself with agility and finesse. Audi claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.9 seconds and an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h.
With safety in mind, the new Audi S5 Coupé has a host of advanced features which work together to ensure intelligent driving protection. All S5 models come standard with dual front, front side, front knee and side curtain airbags in addition to traction and stability control systems and a tyre-pressure monitoring system. One (of many) options is 'Audi side assist' which in essence is a lane changing assistant that informs the driver from speeds of 30 km/h and above with a signal in the exterior mirror as soon as it detects another vehicle in the adjacent lane. Another feature is 'Active lane assist' which supports drivers when travelling at speeds of around 60 km/h or above and when the car inadvertently drifts out of its lane.
