GREAT WALL MOTORS has quickly developed a reputation in South Africa for offering value-driven vehicles. Now the Chinese manufacturer has given its popular H5 SUV some enhancements.
In its latest guise, the H5 remains instantly recognisable courtesy of its trademark vertical tail lamps and sloping nose design. Visually the upgraded model can be easily identified by the chrome strip above the lower front air dam, redesigned rear LED lamps and new tailgate spoiler.
On the inside, this spacious SUV’s interior enhncements include revised chrome and piano-black trim while the car also boasts a healthy list of standard features like climate control, electric windows and side mirrors, a six-speaker, touch-screen infotainment system with DVD/MP3/USB/Aux, reverse park assist camera with audible warnings, light sensing auto headlights, steering-mounted audio controls and Bluetooth, leather upholstery and door inserts, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear-lever knob, rear auxiliary power point, rear demister and rain-sensing wipers.
Two powerplants are on offer. The 2.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor with 100kW of power and 200Nm of torque along with a 2.0-litre VGT turbo-diesel motor credited with 110kW of power and 310Nm of torque.
H5 petrol models (both 4x2 and 4x4) are equipped with the company’s five-speed manual transmission while the diesel models make use of either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic. For the more hardcore adventurers out there, there is further good news in that the flagship H5 2.0 VGT manual 4x4 model now also offers a low-range ratio.
Every H5 is backed by a comprehensive 3-years/100 000 km warranty. The GWM H5 has a price range from R234 900 to R309 900.
