HAVING been given the opportunity to drive the new Kia Rio a few years ago, I instantly became a fan. The car was exactly what the segment needed to shake things up with its lively design and keen pricing.
And, it seems the revised model will continue on these strengths. Comprising hatch and sedan body styles, the subtle yet stylish exterior updates and notable interior upgrades have breathed new life into the Rio range, which is set to remain Kia’s best selling model.
While it might be tough to see the changes at a quick glance, the updates include newly designed front bumper and fog lights.
As with the original, there are subtle differences between the front-end design of the hatch and sedan, with most notable differences being the design of the grille and bumper. The hatchback features asportier design for lower air intakes and front fog lights, while the sedan has a more stylish and integrated design. A new rear bumper on the hatchback completes the exterior makeover.
Moving inside, the Rio gets a touch of elegance with chrome accents around the four dashboard air-vents, while a newly designed centre-stack around the audio system now features piano black trim.
The engine line-up remains unchanged with the entry-level 1.2-litre Kappa engine, still doing duty as well as the 1.4-litre Gamma engine.
