Lexus CT 200h

Motoring Review

THE LEXUS CT 200h has reached the halfway point of its lifecycle here in South Africa (it was introduced locally in 2011). The Japanese luxury manufacturer has now announced it has implemented several improvements to its small car overseas that may reach our shores shortly.

The styling has received some attention too, with the incorporation of the latest Lexus design language, particularly the prominent front grille, which is now lower and wider. The F Sport models get the same mesh pattern in the grille as the IS saloon, along with a new rear spoiler and integrated air ducts. The whole range will receive newly designed alloy wheels as well as a shark’s fin antenna.

The good news is that emissions, particularly on the S model, have fallen below 100g/km to a class-leading CO2 figure of 82g/km. The claimed fuel consumption for the S model is a low 3.6 litres/100km and 4.1litres/100km for the other models.

The interior has also received a makeover, with the incorporation of a new seven-inch monitor in the centre console as well as a new steering wheel it inherits from the IS along with a new gear lever design. On the higher-end models, there is expected to be a GPS-controlled clock along with the Lexus Navigation package, as well as new aluminium scuff plates and LED front fog lamps.

Changes to the construction process have been implemented for the CT too, with the introduction of laser welding and body adhesion as seen with the IS and GS models.
