Suzuki is preparing three new superbikes for the South African market. The SV650S, SV1000S and GSX-R1000 are due in May.

SV650S

The new generation SV650S has an all-new frame, electronic fuel injection and new look. It is powered by 645 cc, 90 degree liquid-cooled V-twin, DOHC eight-valve engine tuned for strong lowdown power.

The electronic fuel injection system features the Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve System (SDTV), which the manufacturer says maintains optimum air velocity in the intake tract for smooth low-to-mid throttle response and high torque output. It comes with an Auto Fast Idle System (AFIS) and the 16-bit ECM provides precise control of ignition timing and injector operation for each cylinder.

The plastic outer clutch cover and engine sprocket cover help reduce weight and noise and the lightweight two-into-one exhaust system tuned for strong low and mid-range torque.

It has powerful dual hydraulic disc front brakes with 290 mm floating calipers and adjustable brake lever position. The new-style 16-litre-fuel tank comes with a low fuel warning light.

It has an overall length of 2 045 mm, seat height of 805 mm and ground clearance of 140 mm. It weighs 169 kg.

The SV650S offers large under-seat storage area, passenger grab-bar and tie-down hooks.

SV1000s

The new sport machine has a proven Suzuki V-twin performance and slim chassis design.

It is powered by the liquid-cooled, 996 cc 90 degree V-twin, DOHC eight-valve engine. The electronic fuel injection system features the Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve System (SDTV)- maintains optimum air velocity in the intake tract for smooth low-to-mid rpm throttle response and high torque output. It also includes Auto Fast Idle System (AFIS).

The new 32-bit ECM with 22-trigger pole r/min sensor provides more precise control of ignition timing and injector operation for each cylinder. The six-speed transmission features a wide diameter, hydraulically-operated clutch with back-torque limiter system.

The narrow, lightweight aluminum truss-style frame is constructed using high-vacuum die-cast process for more strength and fewer individual welded sections.

It has an overall length of 2 130 mm and seat height of 810 mm. The ground clearance is 140 mm.

The compact instrument cluster includes analogue tach, LCD speedometer, odometer/tripmeters, and temperature gauge, plus LCD clock and low fuel warning light. It also has a steeply-angled tail section houses unique vertically-styled, high visibility LED taillight. It features a large under-seat storage area, passenger grab-bar and tie-down hooks.

GSX-R1000

The GSX-R1000 has been updated with more power, reduced weight, new chassis and a new aggressive, aerodynamic look.

It is powered by compact 988cc four-stroke, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with gear-driven counterbalancer and features a new ventilation system to equalise lower-cylinder pressure and reduce mechanical loss.

New 32-bit ECM with 22-trigger pole r/min sensor, provides precise control of ignition timing and injector operation for each cylinder. The pulsed-air injection system (PAIR) helps reduce emissions. New internal oil passageways feed hydraulic cam chain tensioner, eliminating external lines and reducing weight.

The new titanium four-into-two-into-one exhaust system features larger-volume muffler to improve flow and power without increasing noise level.

The new tapered, double-barrel throttle body design is simpler in design with less weight.

The GSX-R1000 has an overall length of 2 045 mm, seat height of 830 mm and a ground clearance of 130 mm.

The new black-painted aluminum frame is both stronger and lighter with adjustable swingarm pivot (kit parts required) and also includes simpler, more durable sub-frame design.

The bodywork includes new front fender, front cowl with vertical headlight, inner rear fender, tail section and fuel tank, all designed for improved aerodynamics. New compact instrument cluster features a step-motor-driven analogue tach. and digital speedometer. It also includes LCD odometer-tripmeters, coolant temp, clock and EFI diagnostics.

New LED-type taillight and new turn signal design are both brighter and more compact.
