Goodyear SA has appointed its first specialist high-performance and 4X4 dealers to handle current tyre and wheel requirements and demands at selected Hi-Q and Trentyre outlets.

Thirty-five Hi-Q and Trentyre centres have been selected to comply with the standards required to deal with high-performance wheels and tyres while 52 4X4 centres will see to the growing needs of SUV drivers as bigger wheels and tyres are becoming increasingly popular.

Realising the trend for premium and exotic tyres with increased wheel sizes, Goodyear started a selection programme to ensure skilled staff at certain Hi-Q and Trentyre fitment centres understood these customers’ specific needs.

The Goodyear accredited high-performance dealers had to complete a rigorous two-day theoretical and practical driver training course for actual experience of the performance cars, and their tyres, in extreme conditions.

Similarly, accredited dealers stationed at the 4X4 centres had to undergo intensive theoretical and practical 4X4 driver and tyre performance training at the Goodyear 4X4 academy in the Western Cape.

Norman Newcombe, Product Manager for Consumer Tyres at Goodyear SA, said the domination of performance tyres had become clear in recent years.

"This placed huge demands on tyre fitment centres, who often lack the expertise in matching tyres and wheels or advising customers on conversions and the right applications.”

"Selected Hi?Q and Trentyre outlets are already fully operational with special fitting, balancing and alignment equipment. The advisors' hands?on approach stems from driver training and we are confident that they exude enthusiasm when dealing with customers,” Newcombe concluded.
