Volvo Car Ireland's Alan Cousins will become the managing director of the Swedish manufacturer's South African subsidiary in August.

Cousins, currently the managing director of Volvo in Ireland, is also a management board member of Volvo Car United Kingdom. He will replace Jacques Brent at Volvo Car SA from August 1 2005.

Outgoing managing director Brent has been appointed national vehicle sales manager at the Silverton-based Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa. He will be responsible for Ford and Mazda sales from July 1.

Brent has lead the Volvo team in South Africa over the past two years through a growth period in which the company has shown an impressive increase in sales and market share, a spokesman for Volvo Car SA said.
