The Renault Mégane II 1,6 gets a tighter, perkier behind with the release of the three-door Shake It! model. The 1,6-litre five-door hatchback and the 1,5-litre dCi diesel models are also offered with the entry-level Shake It! specification.

Previously reserved for the 2,0-litre turbocharged Sport Mégane on the local market, the sportier three-door body style is now also available with smaller engine.

The three- and five-door petrol versions will share Renault's 1,6-litre powerplant, which produces 83 kW at 6 000 r/min and 152 N.m of torque at 4 200 r/min, is now available in both the three-door and five-door bodyshells. The three-door Shake It! kicks off the popular Megane range at R155 000, while the five-door version costs R164 000.

The 1,5-litre dCi is fitted with a high-pressure common-rail turbodiesel that produces 60 kW and 185 N.m, and is claimed to return a combined fuel index of 5,6 litres per 100 km. The five-door diesel Shake It! costs R 173 000.

These models have electric front windows, air conditioning, a tuner/CD front loader and power steering. Upholstery and interior trim are exclusive to the Shake It! range.

Six airbags, ABS with EBD and BAS are standard equipment, as are colour-coded exterior fittings, front foglamps and 16-inch alloy wheels. The models are offered with Pearl Black, Hessian, Eclipse Grey, Flame Red, Mercury Silver or Ottoman Blue exterior finishes.
