BMW’s flagship luxury tourer, the K 1200 LT, has just received a facelift and now comes with a brand new electro-hydraulic stand, an improved instrument cluster and more improvements to the engine and running gear.

The K 1200 LT’s technical highlight is its electro-hydraulic main stand, offering great comfort and safety, especially on a motorcycle of its size. Even when fully-laden and with a passenger, the rider can automatically raise the motorcycle by pressing a button without having to get off the seat.

Extended by 15mm, the K 1200 LT’s longer castor gives it greater stability on the road. The new spring strut with travel-dependent damping provides enhanced suspension already seen on the BMW Cruiser and R 1150 GS Adventure models.

The 1 172 cm3 four-cylinder, four-stroke engine now develops 85 kW and features high-rise gears on the improved five-speed gearbox to allow for even smoother running. The engine has been thoroughly revised with modifications to the camshaft and throttle butterflies. The intake funnels and manifold help to boost the output by 15 per cent and the maximum torque shows an increase of five N.m to 120 N.m. With a maximum speed of 210 km/h, the BMW has fully-integral ABS and the weight is 387 kg with a full petrol tank.

From the front, the K 1200 LT’s look is more appealing, thanks largely to the redesigned headlight, now split into two separate sections. Featuring free-form technology, both the high- and low-beam headlights have clear glass lenses, improving light intensity by ten per cent.

The instrument cluster has also been updated and features a new high-reolution flat-screen infomation unit displaying; overall milage with two trip counters, gear selection indicator, on-board computer functions, radio information fuel level and time.

Other standard equipment includes an alarm and immobiliser, central locking for the top case, side cases and the storage compartment and ground illumination around the parked motorcycle when boarding or dismounting.

A CD changer, double power socket, rider and passenger heated seat and height-adjustable chrome-plated sideboards for the passenger are standard.

Available in Light Yellow, Ocean Blue and Dark Graphite metallic finishes with black seats, the motorcycle’s design is further enhanced by the two-tone effect giving the K 1200 LT a more elegant look.

BMW’s reinvented luxury tourer, the K 1200 LT, sells for R174 900.
