Peugeot has introduced the Partner light commercial vehicle, which it says “bridges the gap between business and private use”.

The Partner slots in next to the Boxer range in Peugeot’s local commercial lineup, and was launched at the new Peugeot commercial centre in Isando, Gauteng, this week.

The Partner has a wide bonnet, high bumpers, sliding side door, large exterior rearview mirrors, and protective side trim. The windscreen is heat reflective and is large to ensure excellent visibility for safety, while the smooth glass headlights give the Partner the distinctive Peugeot look.

As befits a light commercial vehicle, there are numerous storage compartments, including a large overhead storage compartment. Other details include a passenger rearview mirror adjusts electrically, power steering and a 4-spoke steering wheel that is adjustable for height as standard equipment.

There is access to the large loading area of 3m³ with a payload of 800kg through two rear-hinged doors that can open to 180 degrees, or through the sliding door on the left-hand side. A hatch at the rear of the roof can be opened for long items such as pipes and ladders.

Power is derived from a 1,9-litre diesel engine, producing maximum power of 51kW at 4 600 r/min, and maximum torque of 125Nm at a low 2 500 r/min. Fuel economy is consumption is claimed to be 7,3 litres per 100km in the city. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

Safety features include large ventilated front disc brakes, which measure 266 mm in diameter and 26 mm in thickness. Rear stopping power is provided through drums with a diameter of 228 mm and a width of 40 mm. There is also a 60-litre driver’s airbag and central locking.

The Partner will initially be available in white, red, and metallic silver paint, and is warranted for one-year and unlimited mileage. Although Peugeot dealers will do a free warranty check after every 10 000km, a service is only required after every 20 000km. The Partner’s list of optional equipment includes airconditioning and a five-year or 60 000km full Peugeot Maintenance Plan, which can be extended.

Price: R125 900.

* Seven fully-equipped Partners have been distributed across South Africa as part of Peugeot Assistance, which helps stranded Peugeot owners in the event of a breakdown. The vans will operate from Peugeot dealers in all the major centres, and there are plans afoot to expand the fleet to include a Partner at every Peugeot dealer.
