For easy entry, there are useful sliding doors – with fixed windows – for rear passengers on either side. In addition, the vehicle has a large rear tailgate that opens vertically to reveal a cavernous load area.
The maximum payload is 535 kg and the standard load capacity is 650 litres. This expands to a massive 2 600 litres when the rear seats are folded down. A one-piece folding rear seat is standard, but a 60/40 split version is available. Customers also have the option of specifying the Kangoo Multix with twin rear-hinged doors that open up to 180 degrees. For those requiring even more space, roof rails are available as an optional extra.
For added security, a rubber load mat and luggage cover is provided as standard. To prevent articles in the rear from being flung forward under hard braking or impact, a boot partition net can also be ordered.
The new model is available with the 1,4-litre petrol engine with a peak power output of 55 kW at 5 000 r/min and a maximum torque figure of 114 N.m at 2 800 r/min. With its five-speed manual transmission, the Multix is capable of reaching a top speed of 153 km/h.
The Kangoo Multix’s suspension is by MacPherson struts with coil springs at the front and a torsion beam axle at the rear. Anti-roll bars are fitted at front and rear. A flexible blade is fitted up front to improve stability, especially in side winds.
The 1,4-litre Multix is offered in Renault’s Authentique specification. The list of standard equipment includes an air conditioner with pollen filter, power steering, a CD front loader with four speakers and fingertip controls, headlight-on warning, remote central locking, tinted windows, a heat reflective windscreen, rear window demister and multi-function display for the clock, odometer and oil level.
Options include electrically operated and heated door mirrors, electric front windows, metallic paint and 14-inch alloy wheels.
Optional safety features include a driver’s airbag, rear window wash/wiper function, height adjustable front headrests and seatbelts and a roof-mounted third brake light. Customers also have the option of ordering a front passenger airbag, front fog lamps and ABS with EBD and EBA.
The Kangoo’s front section is designed to dissipate energy in the event of an impact, with the collapsible steering column helping to protect the driver’s lower limbs. The facia has energy absorption zones to lower the risk of knee injuries to passengers seated in the front seats.
The Kangoo was awarded a four-star rating in the Euro NCAP frontal and side impact tests. It comes with Isofix points for attaching a child safety seat on the rear of the centre seat.
