Expect to see the revamped version of Toyota's ever-popular Camry at next month's Auto Africa expo. The Camry is fully imported from Australia in conjuction with Toyota SA's Corolla export programme and, therefore, changes to the Aussie model are sure to be reflected in South Africa.
Down Under, the Camry has received extensive treatment to its front end in particular and now sports a new grille. The rear has been slightly restyled with minor revisions to the rear light cluster.
The range will retain its 2,4- and 3,0-litre V6 engines, but come with higher specification levels, and aside from the expected standard fair, cruise control has been added to all the models. The V6 models has power front seats, and side-mounted airbags are available on all models.
However, any attempts to extract information from Toyota SA's spokesman, Roger Houghton, proved fruitless. All enquiries about what to expect from the upcoming facelift to the Camry were treated as top secret. "Everybody will just have to wait until Auto Africa show in October to see it," he said."
When asked whether Camry's bound for SA would be fitted with these devices, Houghton promptly responded by saying that Toyota SA had no comment regarding the equipment.
"That would be like letting the cat out of the bag, wouldn't it?" Houghton added.
