Picture this - a Lamborghini Gallardo screaming past you on the highway complete with blaring sirens and flashing lights. That's what citizens of Rome will need to get used to after the local police received a supercar of its own.
The Gallardo has been donated to the State Police by the Sant'Agata company as part of its 152nd anniversary celebrations held in Rome this weekend.
The traffic police will use their special police car during emergencies and other situations on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway. reported that the Gallardo, thanks to its special defibrillator equipment, will be used to perform electrocardiograms and other procedures. With its top speed in region of 300 km/h, the "Lamborghini Polizia" would also be used to transport plasma and human organs for transplants.
Besides the medical equipment, the vehicle also has advanced technological apparatus for receiving and transmitting information and images relating to critical and/or disaster situations.
All this will be made possible with more sophisticated equipment on board the cop car including a satellite navigational system, a system which records violations and sends images in real time and a direct connection to the police database.
With the Gallardo's five-litre V10 powerplant, it would also be of use in bad weather and road conditions due to its permanent four-wheel drive and specially developed Pirelli snow tyres.
